Two shipping tracks: garments vs fabric
Garments and fabric rolls travel on very different logistics rails. A jacket needs to move in a small parcel between a single designer's studio and a single customer's home. A 6-metre roll of raw linen needs pallet-scale handling from a factory dock to another business. SA Fashion Mall accommodates both.
Garment shipping
Every garment product page shows two flat shipping rates set by the vendor:
- Local — in-metro delivery (typically within the same city as the vendor). Same-day or next-day dispatch via a tracked and insured courier service with signature-on-delivery.
- National — nationwide delivery. Two-to-five business days via a tracked and insured courier service with signature-on-delivery.
You choose Local or National on the checkout review screen, one selection per line item. The shipping fee is added on top of the garment subtotal and paid up-front — 100% of that fee is passed through to the vendor as part of their payout when funds release.
Fabric roll shipping
Fabric mills like KZN Textile Mills fulfill Factory Cut orders directly from their production floor. There is no separate shipping fee added at checkout — the mill either includes shipping in their per-metre pricing or arranges dedicated freight with the buyer for large-volume orders (100m+).
Most fabric orders under 20m ship in a padded cardboard tube via overnight courier. Above 20m, rolls travel in wrapped plastic-bagged bundles on a shared logistics pallet. Expect 3-7 business days depending on the origin province.
Tracking your parcel
When a vendor or factory marks your order Shipped, the tracking number they entered appears immediately on your /my-orders page and in an in-app notification. Copy that number into the courier's own website for real-time waybill status. SA Fashion Mall does not currently proxy tracking from courier APIs — we display the raw tracking reference issued by the vendor.
Deliveries to outlying areas
Some vendors add a small "regional" surcharge on top of National shipping for delivery outside the four major metropoles (Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha). If applicable, this is visible on the product page before you add to cart. If your address is more than 40 km outside a major courier hub, expect an additional 2-4 business days.
Failed deliveries & re-attempts
If a courier attempts delivery and no one is available to receive the parcel, most South African couriers hold the parcel at the depot for 5-7 days and re-attempt one more time. If that fails and the parcel returns to the vendor's studio, you are responsible for a re-shipping fee — this is a standard courier industry practice and is not something SAFM absorbs.
